The qualifying of R4 was featured at 15: 20 at Shanghai Tianma Circuit. Changan Ford Racing Team swept the board of 1,2,3. Although having a fever, Martin Xie still successfully took his third pole position of the year, followed by his teammates Rainey He and Andy Yan.

Due to the smaller size of the circuit, the qualifying was conducted in two groups. All the Ford New Focus were included in the first group based on the qualifying result of the previous round. One Polo made a quick lap and jumped to the top of the time sheet but Martin Xie made his move immediately and took the lead in the lap after.

Knowing the performance of the Kumho tire could only last one of two laps, all the cars came back to take on fresh rubber. Martin improved his time further while his team mates, Rainey He and Andy Yan moved into second and third position.Darryl O’ Young also improved his time sufficient to take the fifth starting position for the Sunday race.

It was worth noticing that the qualifying time of the top 10 cars are within 0.7 second so a tough Sunday fight is expected.

In the press conference, when asked about his condition during qualifying, Martin Xie expressed , “Although I still have a slight fever, I felt energetic and powerful when I put on my helmet. It was just like super power. Besides, the team prepared very well and made the good set up and all our four drivers successfully got the front starting position. So hopefully we will take a good fight again in tomorrow race.”

The race will start at 13:15 tomorrow.
